![]() At night, with heavy weekend traffic to and from Tahoe, this could be a problem. When you leave, headed back toward Placerville or Sacramento, you make a left turn directly onto highway 50. It’s a lovely peaceful place but a tricky to find, and the map on their web site isn’t very helpful. The only negative thing about the restaurant is its location. A good honest pint is only four dollars and their Rogue ale is just excellent. Our server offered to bring samples, a level of service far beyond expectations. Two of the draft beers were new to me, and I was having trouble deciding. They have a nice wine and beer list and three excellent beers on tap. Most of their dinners are about twenty-four dollars including soup or salad. Afterwards, we spent a few minutes roaming the grounds and had a very enjoyable evening. We had the stuffed chicken breast and house special salad – both just excellent. The grounds are quite attractive and they have a lovely area suitable for outdoor weddings. The café also bills itself as the Sierra Banquet Center, and their main emphasis seems to be hosting weddings and events. We went to the Log Cabin Café for dinner the other night with some friends – our first visit to the restaurant. I think they could use a better venting system in the kitchen so that cooking odors don't permeate the entire eating area. One drawback for myself was that when I visited the restroom inside the restaurant, the odor of roasting lamb was very strong in the entire restaurant area - I don't care for lamb and the smell was pretty unwelcome. The server returned several times to check on us and overall we had a very nice meal. Soon after our breakfasts arrived and all four of us enjoyed our selections. As a man that was tending the smoker passed, he apologized for the smoke and then moments later came around the corner with a plate of freshly smoked salmon to try! We placed our orders, along with a carafe of mimosas which were served quickly, along with a plate of 4 small mini muffins - all was very good - fresh orange juice was a nice surprise in the mimosas. We were getting the aroma of BBQ smoke, to find that the smoker was just on the other side of the large stone fireplace from our table. Our server was prompt with waters and offers of coffee and other beverages and left us to review the menus. We chose a table outdoors, as it was a beautiful Fall day and the grounds are really lovely and well kept. As another reviewer mentioned, the restaurant is not easy to find, however my sister lives in Camino, so we knew right where to go.
